Check Registration – Real Estate Professionals

Prior to buying or selling a home, you should always check if your real estate agent is registered to do business in Manitoba. You can do this by searching the real estate registration database at https://rols.mb.ca/aspx/pubinquiry.aspx.

Search results will provide the category of registration and the name of the registrant’s employing broker.

Registration requirements are set for all real estate brokers, salespersons and mortgage brokers in the province of Manitoba by the Manitoba Financial Services Agency (MFSA).

You can search to see if the real estate registrant is currently the subject of MFSA disciplinary proceedings by reviewing the hearings and proceedings schedule on the MFSA website http://www.mbrealestate.ca/law-policy/hearings-and-proceedings.html . You can also check to see if they have been the subject of past disciplinary action by searching the MFSA’s Securities Division website https://docs.mbsecurities.ca/msc/reoe/en/nav_date.do

Finally, it is always a good idea to do informal research by checking the news, searching the internet and talking to family and friends. This may help you to uncover stories, both good and bad, about the conduct of agents working in the real estate industry.
